It grows in the central plain of the Atacama desert, in saline soils, under which there are deep water tables fed from the high plateau. In the 1970s, Corfo reforested large areas since there were few wild specimens left. (Philippi Foundation).

Habitat

Desert areas with saline soils and underground water tables.
